I just joined the Four Bitchin’ Babes Facebook Page.
My new favorite girl-band has been around for 22 years but I didn’t even know it existed until my friend Ginny sent out an email to a bunch of her friends under the subject line, “Babefest 1,” inviting us to go to the Four Bitchin’ Babes concert at Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage.
I liked the concert so much that I did something I haven’t done since the kids were young and I needed something to soothe them on long minivan rides — I bought a CD. Then, when I got home, I checked their calendar to see who I could tell to go to any of the final concerts left on the current tour.
Welcome to the power of word of mouth marketing when someone knows how to match what they’re recommending to the right people and offer it to them at the right time.
In Ginny’s case, those people filled an entire row.
As the concert was ending, Sally Fingerett, who has been in the band since inception, addressed the audience: “We know that it’s an intense time in the economy and we just want to personally thank you for choosing us tonight for your entertainment dollars. I know it’s crazy out there with all the choices.”
Ginny got me there. The concert will bring me back.
See below for a taste of why. If you don’t get it, look in the mirror. You’re probably too young or too male.
